Bus carrying Moroccans diverted in Spain
Morocco-Spain, Local, 8/12/2003
Spanish authorities are trying to locate a bus carrying Moroccan nationals, that was diverted by unknown people early on Sunday in a station service in Grenada (southern Spain), Spain's National Radio reported Monday.
According to various testimonies, three or four people who pretended to be police agents rode the bus and drove it to a service station in Malaga, where they abandoned its 13 passengers and one of the bus' two drivers before continuing their way toward an unknown destination.
The 13 passengers and the driver were resting on board of the bus that was making a pause near a cafeteria. In the meantime, some 27 other passengers of the same bus and another driver were inside the cafeteria when the vehicle was hijacked.
A travel agency in Algesiras that organized the trip, took in charge the 40 passengers who took another bus, the Spanish Guardia civil said, adding all the passengers are sound and safe and that the incident is a mere theft perpetrated by a gang of delinquents.
The bus was transiting by southern Spain heading to northward.
