Syria, Politics, 8/12/2003
A Syrian human rights organization has welcomed the release of 30 Syrians who were arrested after their coming back to the country during the three past months from exile.
In a statement yesterday, the society listed the names of released persons, most of them relatives or children of the ruling Baath Party in Syria.
The society which was established in July 2001, called for the release of other exiled Syrians who returned back from Iraq and other countries and to permit all exiled, voluntarily or forced, the right to a secure return back home.
In July this year, the society issued a decision condemning the oppressive detentions, the last of which was the detention of one Syrian at the Damascus International airport upon his arrival from Sweden after 2 decades' absence.
Then, the statement called on the Syrian authorities to honor laws provide for ensuring security of the citizen and his honor "to end the security forces control of citizen's security and freedom," as well as releasing all political detainees.
