New strategy to capitalize on the large pharmaceutical exports industry

Prime Minister Egypt's Atef Ebeid Sunday presided over a ministerial meeting which was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Health and representatives of health services, pharmaceutical production and serums at the various government, public and private organizations.

Egypt's Minister of Health Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin said that the Prime Minister stressed at the meeting that it was important to increase exports of Egypt's distinguished products in the fields of health services, particularly heart, chest and bone surgeries, tumors and organ transplants.

He pointed out that Egyptian medicines were being exported at present to 81 countries. They find a large demand in a large number of countries.

The Minister of Health said that it was decided to appoint a medical attach? at Egyptian trade representation offices in some foreign countries in order to advertise for Egyptian medicines and medical products.

A medical office will be set up at Cairo International Airport to receive patients coming to receive treatment in Egypt and direct them to the proper specialized places.

A treatment visa will be available and can be obtained within 24 hours. Egyptian medical attaches abroad will be in charge of facilitating the issue of this visa.

Special fares will be offered on Egypt Air flights to those coming to receive treatment in Egypt.

The Minister of Health said that the Egyptian treatment and pharmaceutical production sector will be represented in joint ministerial committees between Egypt and various world countries in order to promote the export of Egyptian medicinal products.

Political support will be intensified to exports of medicines and serums to Arab, African and friendly countries and training courses will be expanded for medical cadres and medical establishments in Arab and friendly countries in the fields of treatment and advanced medicines and serums.

Medical convoys will visit Arab and African countries to contribute to promoting Egyptian medical products in promising markets and show the progress realized in the treatment and medical fields in Egypt.

An international conference for therapeutic tourism will be arranged in Egypt in May to discuss the development of the pharmaceutical industry.

Egyptian tourism and medical offices abroad will give a picture on programs of therapeutic tourism in Egypt.

Tours will be arranged for foreign diplomatic missions, in Egypt to visit Egyptian pharmaceutical companies and treatment centers.

The setting-up of special production lines for export at Egyptian pharmaceutical companies will be considered and will be given the treatment of free and economic zones in order to support the export of Egyptian medicines and serums.
