Casablanca attacks: french Perec acquitted
Morocco-France, Local, 8/11/2003
The criminal chamber of the Rabat appeal court acquitted Friday French national Picard Perec, Alias Bilal, who was prosecuted part of the Casablanca terrorist attacks probe.
After a three-hour deliberation, the chamber decided the Frenchman, 30, was innocent from the charge of non-denunciation of terrorist attacks.
During the hearing, Perec, who comes from Lyon, said he was not aware of Moroccan laws under which denouncing criminal acts is an obligation. The aim behind his visit to Morocco, which he started 10 months ago, was deepening his knowledge of Islam, he said.
The French national said he was well treated during his detention and that he has always avoided talking to people with extremist and fanatic ideas. (MAP)IS
