Shiite clergy detained, confrontations in southern Iraq

The occupation forces yesterday detained Abdul Karim al-Madani ( 48 year old), the highest Shiite religious cleric in Deyali area in Baqouba city, 60 Km to the northern west of Baghdad.
His son, Hassan Abdul Karim al-Madani, said that the American soldiers detained his father together with 12 of his supporters yesterday at midnight. Earlier al-Madani was detained for two days on July 2nd through 4. His detention then was followed by demonstrations during which one person was killed in a vague explosion.
However, resistance acts were not limited to northern or central Iraq, rather extended to the South, where the British occupation forces exist. A spokesman for the occupation coalition announced the killing of three Iraqi gunmen in different incidents in Meisan governorate.
American British forces in al-Amara was also exposed yesterday to anti- armored vehicles missiles. Following investigations it was found out that 6 Iraqis were injured by the British forces bullets.
In al-Basra, one Iraqi was killed, wounded by the bullets of the British forces during the continued demonstrations in the city for the second running day.
The demonstrators attacked the cars and burnt tires in the second day of complaints against continued obstruction of water and electricity services in the city.
