Mubarak and Al Bashir phone talks, help to Sudan flood victims

Egypt's President Mubarak yesterday received a telephone call from Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir dealing with the latest developments in the Sudan and efforts for reactivating peace talks aiming at maintaining stability in the Sudanese territories.

The two leaders also exchanged views on a number of Arab and regional issues of common interest.

The President was briefed on the effects of high flood rates in the Sudanese regions.

President Mubarak ordered the Prime Minister to take measures for providing necessary relief materials in order to rescue the Sudanese citizens who were plagued by the floods.

The President also ordered the Minister of Defence to offer the necessary provisions and to furnish two ( aircraft for conveying provisions to the Sudan today.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry is making contacts with, number of Arab countries and international organizations in order to provide urgent aid for the populations of the flood stricken areas which left eight persons killed and four missing.

Houses of 70,000 families in Kassala were demolished Humanitarian needs are estimated at $ 4 billion.

Torrential rains have demolished 65 houses in the northern province. Water level on the River Nile scored an increase of 26 centimeters.

In a related development. Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi has expressed his country' readiness to put all its potentials at the disposal of the Sudan, to mitigate the brunt of the natural disaster afflicting the Sudan.

Al-Bashir had earlier made telephone call with Qathafi during which briefed him on the damages afflicting some areas as a result of torrential rains.
