Khartoum accepts resumption of peace talks
Sudan, Politics, 8/4/2003
Sudan's foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael yesterday announced that the Sudanese government agreed to take part in the peace talks following continued contacts exerted by Khartoum, Washington and Nairobi to rescue the talks from collapse.
Othman said "We continue making contacts with capitals of countries which play a pivotal role in the peace process in order to discuss means of reaching final proposals in order to end the state of war in the country."
Othman, in particular, commended "the efforts of the American President George Bush to achieving permanent peace in the country," noting that the US participation was the main reason behind the government's approval to resume the talks.
