Al-Thawra director general removed
Syria, Politics, 8/1/2003
News reports in Damascus said that the prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro issued removed the director general and chief editor of al-Thawra newspaper Fahd Diab, less than one year after assuming his post in the newspaper.
Sources at the ministry of information said that removing Diab came as a result of the accumulation of mistakes under his administration of the paper and inability to appropriately manage it. The paper will be run by Diab's assistant Mufi Khansa until the project of merging the two main papers in Syria, al-Thawra and Teshreen- will be completed into one paper which has not been named yet. This merging is, however, is in the context of reforming the press sector in Syria. The sources said that the editing department will be separated from the general administration in the paper.
Al-Wahda establishment, which publishes al-Thawra newspaper, is one of the major press establishments in Syria. It publishes several local dailies in several Syrian governorates.
