Al-Assad supports Arab resolve
Syria-Regional, Politics, 8/1/2003

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has stressed that Syria is working for boosting Arab solidarity and for activating the joint Arab work in support of Arab steadfastness.

In a speech addressed to Syrian Arab Forces yesterday marking their 58th anniversary of the Syrian armed forces day, al Ð Assad said that the latest developments and conditions that took place in the Arab and international arenas have created large imbalances on the international arena. He added that Syria is a part of the Arab nation and "we react to what happens in Arab countries." He made it clear that what really concerns now at this stage is the Arab Ð Israeli conflict and the new situation in Iraq caused by the occupation.

Al Ð Assad stressed that only just and comprehensive pace can provide security and stability in the region.

Concerning the situation in Iraq, he said that our stance was and still is to give the opportunity to the international community to play its role in solving this issue.
