Progress of southern provinces is only achievable in a unified Morocco (former polisario officials)
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 7/30/2003

Three former Polisario officials, who recently returned to Morocco, said no future nor progress is achievable for the southern provinces except within a unified Morocco.

The former Polisario officials returned to Morocco in response to the royal call, "the homeland is clement and merciful," that promises exemption from sanctions and questioning to separatists who chose to return to their homeland.

Mohamed M'Hamed Yahdih, a former member of the "national secretariat" of Polisario's Youth Union, Sidati Mohamed Abdelahi, former representative of Polisario in Rome, Greece Malta and the Vatican and Keltoum El Khayat, executive at the department of external relations of Polisario's Women Union told the Moroccan TV channel on Monday that they adhered to the secessionist group when they were young at a time marked with revolutionary movements in the world and the region.

"these movements disseminated false concepts without solid bases, said Yahdih, adding that "we adhered to the organization before finding out that it is a project that aims to realize the interests of a foreign country."

El Khayat highlighted the role of the colonization in the creation of the so-called Sahrawi entity, insisting that the Sahara has always been linked to Morocco and to the Alawite throne. The former Sahrawi official said she is satisfied that she was finally convinced that "the Sahara is a part and parcel of Morocco" and it is only within Morocco that the Sahrawis can enjoy their rights as part of the Moroccan population.

El Khayat added that the "United Nations Security Council cannot impose a solution on Morocco, voicing hope that Algeria will improve relations with its neighbor (Morocco) to which it is linked by history, religion and identity to build the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA mustering Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia).

For his part, Sidati Mohamed Abdelahi said it is impossible to create a micro state separated from the kingdom, arguing that the foundations of a state would be lacking.

"It does not make sense that at a moment when European countries opt for unity, we try to create a micro state led by persons serving the interest of another state," he underlined.
