Maher delivers message from Mubarak to Qathafi
Libya-Egypt, Politics, 7/29/2003
Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher said he conveyed a message from President Hosni Mubarak to Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi on conditions in the region, especially with regard to the Palestinian issue and Iraq, in addition to coordination of Arab stances and activation of joint Arab action.
In press statements following a meeting with the Libyan leader, Maher said that Gaddafi appreciated efforts exerted by President Mubarak in the interest of the Arab nation.
He said that the Libyan leader had entrusted him with reply message to President Mubarak on the importance of activating joint Arab action.
Maher asserted that the two countries share the same view on backing the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership until the establishment of the Palestinian state and the end of the Israeli occupation.
On the Iraqi issue, Maher cited a complete understanding on the need for the Iraqis to rule themselves, underlining the importance of preserving Iraq's unity and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian minister said he discussed with the Libyan side bilateral relations and measures taken to facilitate movement for the two countries' people across their Borders.
Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi received on Monday Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher, currently visiting Libya as a personal envoy of President Hosni Mubarak.
They probed bilateral relations, conditions in the Palestinian territories and the Iraqi issue.
Egypt's ambassador to Libya Hani Khallaf said Maher's talks also dealt with preparations currently under way to coordinate stances before holding the coming meeting of the Arab follow-up committee.
