Washington: Libya has not met demands to solve the Lockerbie issue
Libya-USA, Politics, 7/29/2003
In a sign that the efforts to resolve the problems between US and Libya have not been resolved, the US said yesterday that Libya has not fulfilled the UN demands especially accepting responsibility for the bomb which went off in the American Pan-Am plane airline over Lockerbie town in Scotland in 1998 and resulted in killing 270 persons.
The spokesman for the US Department Of State Richard Boucher said that the US did not see in this phase acceptance of responsibility which meets the criterion of the UN resolution. He added that there are no short cuts and Libya knows what needs to be done in order to fulfil the demands of the UN resolutions.
The two main preconditions Libya should fulfil in order to end sanctions are to claim responsibility openly and to arrange a separate settlement for compensating the families of the victims.
Lat week, Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi told the British Sky TV that the file of the case will be closed very shortly, noting that the matters relating to responsibility are actually considered expired.
