Mubarak: Sharon is the only Israeli who is able to make peace

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt said in a meeting with students in Alexandria on Saturday that the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon "is the only one who is able to solve the crisis taking place in the Middle East region, because he alone has enough courage to do that."

Mubarak, on the other hand, warned the Americans over the possibility of "a guerilla war and increasing acts of terrorism if a timetable is not laid to make elections and appoint a legitimate government in Iraq."

Mubarak considered that "despite the continued violence, however, Sharon is the only person who can solve the crisis at the present time.. should he wants that.. Sharon is the only Israeli politician who enjoys the needed political courage to achieve progress in the peace process and in implementing the Roadmap," noting that Sharon himself was the one "who evacuated Sinai."

The Egyptian president considered the American decision to desolve the Iraqi army and abrogating other governmental posts as a mistake that caused the appearance of unemployment and the spread of crime in Iraq. Mubarak criticized alienating those who were working with the Baath regime saying "all employees were Baathists during Saddam's rule and the one who was not Baathist pretended to be so in order to preserve his life."
