Saddam and sons were in Baghdad for a week under sight of occupation forces
Iraq, Politics, 7/26/2003
Accusation continue by some that the owner of the house where the two sons of President Saddam Hussein lived had betrayed them. A relative of the owner of the house where Ode and Qusai Saddam Hussein were killed on Tuesday in al-Musil said that Sheikh Nawaf Muhammad al-Zeidan received yesterday a reward of 50 million dollars from the American forces after he had notified them on the place where Saddam's two sons were living.
Al-Zeidan's relative said that he himself saw the check and that Sheikh Nawaf is currently at the house of a relative in al-Musil.
On the other hand, one of the former personal guards for Ode said that Saddam and his two sons did not leave Baghdad before the mid of April and moved in a sedan car under the sight of the occupations forces.
The guard who refused to be identified and used the name of Abu Teiba said in a statement to the British daily the "Times" that Saddam and his tow sons continued, after they had left the city, to resist the occupations forces.
He explained that Ode, personally, after he left the capital assumed leading the "Saddam Fedayeen" militias, adding that this is what they had planned for in the last meeting with them in Baghdad. The former guard, who separated from Ode as he fled from Baghdad following seven years with him, added "the only thing Ode was thinking of was the leading of resistance. I think he was leading the resistance when he was killed on Tuesday."
The guard ( 28 year old) said "perhaps for the first time in his life, Ode had a definite objective," as he departed the life of disorder he used to have. The guard added that everything changed in Ode when the war erupted. He used to sleep at midnight to wake up at 4 p.m., listen to the TV and return back to sleep until 6 in the morning." Abu Teiba recalled that Ode when "he saw the collapse of his father's statue ( on April 9 at al-Fardous square ) he was very nervous and in the worst temper."
Abu Teiba said that Ode gave him 1000 dollars before leaving Baghdad saying he will contact him once again if he needs him.
The paper said that Abu Teiba, father a former driver for Saddam Hussein who attended the meeting with his son, commented saying "people hate the Americans and do not want them and they will continue fighting for that reason and not because they are Fedayeen Saddam."
