Yemeni parliamentary delegation in Germany to ask for handing over al-Mu'ayad
Yemen-Germany, Local, 7/26/2003

A Yemeni parliamentary delegation yesterday submitted a petition to the German parliament asking for interfering with the German government to permit the return back to Yemen of the two detainees: the chairman of the charity al-Ihsan Center in Sanaa, Muhammad Ali al-Mu'ayad ( 55 year old), and his escort Muhammad Mohsin Zayed ( 29 year old), who are held in Germany since July 10th and demanded for extradition by the US.

Last week a court in Frankfurt agreed to hand over the two men to the US over suspicion that they are members in a "terrorist organization, and that one of them had offered financial support to al-Qaida organization and the extremist wing of the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas."

The delegation which is composed of a group of legislators and legal experts traveled to Berlin this week to protest over the delivery of thew two men. One member of the delegation, Ismael Ahmad al-Qazir said " we ask for handing over the Yemenis to Yemen so as our country's war against terrorism will not be affected by their detention."

The lawyers of the two convicted men assumed the sentence before the constitutional court and announced that the delivery process might be postponed for months until considering the appeal process.

American officials accuse al-Mu'ayad of being one financial source for al-Qaida.
