Arab Ministerial Meeting on WTO fifth ministerial meeting

Lebanese Deputy Premier, Issam Fares has stressed that activating the joint Arab work and putting conditions, laws and requirements which serve the Arab states' citizens and interests are the responsibility of all Arabs.

In a speech in Beirut on Thursday during opening of the Arab Ministerial Meeting for preparation for the World Trade Organization,(WTO) Fifth Ministerial meeting, Fares said that the Arab ranks unity gives us strength in WTO meetings.

For her part, Deputy of the United Nations Secretary General, Mervat M. Tallawy, underlined the importance of this meeting in the light of current circumstances, challenges and instability in the region due to conflicts and wars.

She stressed that coordinating efforts among the developing states including Arab states will boost their stance in the forthcoming meeting.

In a press conference following the opening, SyriaÕs Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Ghassan Rifaee underlined that this meeting is an important event for coordinating and crystallizing some important issues to be discussed in the forthcoming WTO meeting.

He said that Syria is making a comprehensive revision and graduated work on economic level particularly regarding the foreign trade rules and banking sector.

He called on supporting Syria's application of joining to the WTO and reviewing this application in the meeting agenda.
