Al-Shara confers with EU ambassadors accredited in Damascus

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara met in Damascus yesterday ambassadors of the European Union's countries in Damascus in a luncheon held by Italian Ambassador in Damascus Mrs. Laura Meracian on the occasion of Italy's taking the presidency of the European Union.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest regional and international developments especially in the Middle East.
Regarding the situation in Iraq, al-Shara stressed that the Iraqi people should choose their government without any interference in order to end the occupation and preserve their lands' integrity and unity.
Regarding the peace process, al-Shara said that what is needed by the Syrian track is the drawing of the (June- 4- 1967) line on the map, sooner or later, in order to realize the just and comprehensive peace in the ME.
Al-Shara underlined the important role that may be played by the EU through activating the United Nations' role regarding the Iraqi issue, and through activating the Quartet Committee regarding the peace process.
