Mubarak calls for Iraqi elections: we will protect the peace process from its enemies
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 7/23/2003

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday called for having elections in Iraq very quickly "in order to end the disorder" which he considers as "threatening the Middle East region as a whole."

Mubarak said in a speech on the occasion of July 23 rd revolution anniversary of 1952 that it is "dangerous for the security and stability of the region to have tension continues and the absence of security and disorder to spread and services to collapse."

Mubarak added "we consider that the outlet from all these regrettable conditions lies in the work very quickly that an Iraqi authority should assume responsibility for all of that and the authority to be elected and be armed with potentials and capabilities that will avail preparation for the return back of life to this country to normalcy."

Mubarak noted the ME peace process stressing "the determination" of Egypt to implement the roadmap and to exert all possible efforts in order to protect "the peace march from its enemies."

He added " we work with all our might to continue the peace process and to eliminate all impeding obstacles and we persist on the implementation of the roadmap in a balanced and parallel way." Mubarak also stressed "exerting all efforts in order to preserve the push for protecting the march of peace from attempts made by its enemy who want to drive this region once again in the turmoil of war and bloodshed and confiscating the right of the Palestinian people for establishing their state."
