On the peace process in Sudan

Ghazi Salah Eddine, the advisor of the Sudanese President for peace affairs, has announced that IGAD secretariat had given a new proposal concerning the resumption of peace negotiations between the Sudanese government and the rebels in the Kenyan capital by the beginning of August. He expected that his government will receive a notification to this effect during the few coming days.

In a statement he made in Khartoum upon his arrival back from Nairobi, He said he had delivered the Kenyan President a message from the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir concerning means of giving peace efforts a push forward and eliminating obstacles that emerged during the previous round of negotiations.

Salah Eddine explained that his visit to Kenya on Monday was in the framework of a tour he made to brief leaders of the IGAD states on the developments of peace process in southern Sudan and to maintain consultation with them on best wishes to give it a push forward.
