Swedish NGO expresses concern to International Criminal Court over polisario crimes
Morocco-Sweden, Politics, 7/23/2003

The Swedish Association for the defense of Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf (ADESETI) expressed on Monday concern to the public prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, over the crimes perpetrated by the Polisario (Algeria-backed secessionist group) against the Sahrawi population sequestered in Tindouf camps (southwestern Algeria).

The association's spokesman, Alamin Yahia, sent the international court a message urging for an earnest probe into the case of Sahrawis and the practices of torture and massacre inflicted by the Polisario on some people simply because they disagree with their separatist ideas.

"Although some of these crimes were perpetrated before 1998, we want to bring to the International criminal Court attention to the barbarous acts that were perpetrated by persons who are now in leading positions in the Polisario direction, notes the Stockholm-based NGO.

Some 235 persons were victim of these atrocities in Tindouf in the Algerian territory, goes on the association which sent a copy of the message to the European Union's high representative for security and politics, Javier Solana.

The NGO that gathers members who are in the majority Swedish nationals cites concrete cases of persons who still carry torture scars in their bodies.
