Egyptian journalist criticizes monopoly of authority by the ruling party
Egypt, Politics, 7/21/2003
The Egyptian columnist who works for al-Ahram daily, Salamah Ahmad Salamah, yesterday criticized the "monopoly of the ruling" Democratic National Party of the authority. A matter which he says prevents any political reforms.
Salamah wrote that "the monopoly of the national party of the authority by all means and its stubborn rejection of the political reforms with the aim to perpetuate the situation, having no room for renewal and renovation in the thinking and leaderships, had added an atmosphere of uncertainty in Egypt."
Salamah considered that such atmospheres contributed to that "most of youths and intellectuals ignored taking part in the elections and in the political process as a whole." The Egyptian journalist also criticized the fact that the Egyptian constitution is not amended when he questioned why "demanding the amendment of the constitution to become more adaptable to changes and developments taking place in Egypt" is considered by officials a violation to stability and national unity and a destruction for social peace.
Meantime, the former Egyptian minister of the Interior Abdul Halim Mousa, one of the symbols for oppressing the Islamic movements, died on Saturday in one of Cairo's hospitals after he had cancer. Mousa had the post of the minister of the interior in Egypt between 1990- 1993.
