Trials in connection with may 16 attacks are respectful of law, justice minister
Morocco, Local, 7/19/2003
All trials held in connection with May 16 terrorist attacks are respectful of the law and the prosecuted enjoy their full rights, Moroccan justice minister, Mohamed Bouzoubaa said in Rabat on Thursday.
Bouzoubaa underlined in a meeting with representatives of the Paris-based International Human Rights Federation (FIDH) that the "Moroccan approach is based on fighting terrorism without breaching human rights."
The FIDH delegates said they had "a good impression as to the evolution of democratic practices in Morocco" but expressed concern as they refereed to the situation of the prisoners linked to May 16 suicide bombings that killed 44 people.
To wipe out all doubt in this issue, the minister authorized the FIDH delegation to visit a prison where some of the prisoners are detained.
