Morocco and Pakistan sign package of agreements

Morocco's King Mohammed VI and President Pervez Musharraf co-chaired in Rabat on Friday at the Royal Palace the signing of three cooperation agreements between Morocco and Pakistan The agreements were signed on the second day of the Pakistani president's official visit to Morocco.
The first agreement, dealing with scientific and technological cooperation, stipulates that the two countries shall exchange scientists, researchers and scientific information and documentation. The two countries also undertake to reinforce cooperation between their scientific and technological institutions and organizations.
The second agreement on cooperation in Islamic affairs commits the two countries to encourage cooperation as regards building mosques and Islamic institutes and centers, using Moroccan craftsmanship in Islamic sculpture and ornamentation as well as endeavoring to counter-act and uncover any action contrary to Islam in the two countries.
This agreement also provides for exchanging information on the rehabilitation of the Islamic heritage, research, studies, documents and media production concerning Islamic culture.
Under an agreement on cooperation in the field of environment, the two governments pledge to establish institutional, legislative and technical cooperation between their public and private institutions to protect the environment and to adopt sustainable development policies liable to encourage industrial, scientific and technological cooperation.
The two Islamic countries will further cooperate in the management and protection of ecologically sensitive areas, the management of industrial and domestic wastes and similar wastes, and the development of applied research concerning the environment. The agreement also provides for exchanging information, opinions and proposals about environment programs and exchange visits by experts and trained people to ensure the transfer of technology know-how and acquisition of expertise. The agreements were signed by Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, and Pakistani peer, Khoursheed Mahmoud Kasouri.
