Danforth: we have reached the end of the game in Sudan
Sudan-USA, Politics, 7/19/2003

The special envoy of the US President George W. Bush in Sudan, John Danforth, yesterday warned the government of Khartoum and the rebels that they have just several weeks to prove their since intention to end the war.

In a press conference he held yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya, Danforth said that the remaining problems are few and are relatively easy to solve and the two sides have to choose now between peace and war. He added "I believe we will know in the few coming weeks if there will be a solution. I think it is the end of the game.. We will know if there is hope to peace.. whether it is possible to reach an agreement."

Danforth who is in a mission on the region said that "President Bush is greatly interested" in Sudan but he warned that the international community will divert its attention from this case if an agreement will not be made shortly. Danforth said "Should every side really wants peace and should every side negotiates with a good intention, then other issues can be settled in a very short time. I mean in short time, weeks rather than months.. However, the rising question.. whether the two sides actually want peace."
