One American soldier killed, 611 Iraqi, including 62 former officials detained

The US army yesterday announced the killing of one of its soldiers in an attack by the Iraqi resistance, and that 611 Iraqi persons were arrested in a new operation for its forces, at a time when the largest rescue operations for the American wounded has started since Vietnam war.
The American army said that one American soldier was killed yesterday in an operation which targeted a military procession in Faluja to the west of Baghdad and explained that the soldier was killed when "an explosive went off at a crossroad."
Earlier, eye witnesses in Faluja said that an attack by anti- tank weapons resulted in wounding at least three Americans and took place in an unpopulated area.
In Baqouba to the east of Baghdad, eye witnesses said that two American tanks were exposed to RPJ weapons attack fired by unidentified persons. No casualties were reported.
A statement by the US army said that one American soldier died yesterday of his wounds he had in a non military incident.
Meantime, the American occupation army has started the largest relief campaign for wounded since the war of Vietnam in which Black Hawk helicopters are taking place and medical teams in order to evacuate the wounded soldiers in Iraq because of Iraqi resistance attacks.
The US army announced yesterday it had arrested 611 suspected Iraqis including 62 former officials in the toppled Iraqi regime and confiscated thousands of weapon pieces during a new operation. The American army added that the operation ended on Thursday and included 141 missions in 4 days carried out in a Sunni area situated along Tigris river to the north and west of Baghdad. The operation aimed at "avoiding and halting hostile attacks" and "finding opportunities to ensure a long term stability in Iraq.
At a time when the American army says its lacks a shortage in the number of troops in Iraq, The New York Times said yesterday that the US defense department thinks of preparing a special security force in Iraq to guard hundreds of position so as to alleviate the burden on the US soldiers.
