Morocco, Sierra Leone agree to upgrade cooperation and consultations
Morocco-Sierra Leone, Politics, 7/18/2003

Morocco and Sierra Leone signed in Rabat on Thursday a protocol setting up a mechanism of political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries and agreed to create a joint commission for cooperation.

The protocol, signed by the Sierra Leone's minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation Alhaji Momodu Koroma who is currently in a visit to Morocco and his Moroccan peer Mohammed Benaissa, aims to reinforce bilateral relations.

Under the protocol, annual political consultations will be held between the two African countries to exchange viewpoints on bilateral, regional and international questions of common interest. Consultations may also cover issues related to cooperation, economics, trade, science and culture.

As for the joint commission for cooperation, it will examine bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

On Sierra Leone's decision to freeze its recognition of the puppet Sahrawi republic, Koroma said this will contribute to restore peace in the region and consolidate cooperation with Morocco.

The Sierra Leonean foreign minister, who is due to meet other Moroccan officials, was received Wednesday by king Mohammed VI.
