Yemeni President: our dealings with Americans are in the open
Yemen-USA, Politics, 7/17/2003
The Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said that his country deals with the Americans in an open manner. In an al-Jazira TV program issued yesterday evening, the Yemeni President indicated that there are offices for the CIA and the FBI inside the American embassy in Sanaa.
Simultaneously the Yemeni President reiterated that there are no American forces in Yemen, adding that Sanaa does not fight terrorism in order to please Washington.
Saleh expressed his conviction, during the meeting, that the Arabs were expecting the elimination of the Iraqi regime in the confrontation of the American force. He called for having a legitimate Iraqi leadership that restores back security to Iraq.
The Yemeni President also called on his Arab peers to compromise on issues in order to maintain Arab unity and for reforming the Arab League so as to be similar to the European Union. He said he nominates the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to be the leader of the new federation.
Saleh stressed Sanaa's continued support for the Palestinians in resisting the Israeli occupation. He denied any economic normalization with Tel Aviv.
