Egypt-Syria, Politics, 7/17/2003
Syria's President Bashar al-Assad and Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday in a telephone call made by al-Assad exchanged "view points concerning latest developments in the Middle East and the results of recent contacts made to achieve the unity of the Palestinians. They discussed Arab, regional and international issues of mutual concern," according to well-informed news reports in Cairo.
The telephone call is made following talks held by the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Tuesday with the director of the Egyptian intelligence Lt. Gen. Omar Suleiman on means of strengthening the provisional and preconditioned truce declared by the Palestinian groups on June 29th.
