Jordanian prisoners in Israeli jails urges the king to interfere
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/16/2003

Jordanian prisoners in the Israeli jails have urged the Jordanian King Abdullah II to interfere in order to release them.

In a message addressed to the King, the prisoners said "we are today waiting for your highness with an eye of hope, hoping that your excellency will have the role to restore back the smile to the faces of our children and remove sadness and tears from the faces and eyes of our mothers, wives and brothers." News reports said that the message was conveyed by the relatives of some 84 Jordanians held in Israel for 13 years.

Meantime, the Jordanian committee in charge of defending Jordanian prisoners started contacts with several Jordanian parliamentarians in order to debate the issue of the prisoners inside the parliament in order to urge the government to work for their release.

In a press statement, member in the Jordanian prisoners defense committee in the Israeli jails, and the father of one of the prisoners Ateyah Freij said that the "parliamentarians who were contacted showed great enthusiasm to debate this issue to the government," adding that the committee decided to launch a site on the Internet to acquaint with this case. Freij added that the committee made contacts with the chairman of the consulate department at the Jordanian foreign ministry and with the vocational trade unions in the framework of a comprehensive move to raise the issue of the detainees.
