Paris opposes any solution to Sahara issue without consent of all parties
Morocco-France, Politics, 7/15/2003
France said on Tuesday it opposes any settlement to the Sahara issue that does not enjoy the consent of all the parties.
Spokesman of the French foreign department, Herve Ladsous, said France strongly wishes that any settlement to the Sahara issue should be reached with the consent of concerned parties.
This is constant belief in France's analysis of the issue, the Quai D'Orsay spokesman went on recalling that the UN security council is carrying on consultations on proposals made by the UN secretary general's personal envoy for the Sahara, James Baker.
King Mohammed VI held on Monday phone talks with presidents Jacques Chirac of France and George Bush of the USA, two permanent countries of the Security Council. The sovereign also talked on the phone with Spanish premier Jos? Maria Aznar, whose country is chairing the security council for the month of July.
The Council held last Friday a closed-door session on the Sahara, to be carried on Wednesday by a meeting at the level of experts.
