Sequestered Moroccans in Tindouf arrested and tortured
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 7/15/2003

A group of Moroccans sequestered in the Tindouf camps (southwestern Algeria) by the Polisario have recently faced a wave of arrests and torture after they rose up against inhumane practices in the camps, controlled by the Polisario secessionists.

The group of sequestered persons who tried to flee the camps but were captured had to face even harsher and more cruel forms of torture. They were also punished for unveiling the trafficking and embezzlement of foreign humanitarian aid extended to the camps population by various organizations.

"Assahra Al Maghribya" that reports the information also says the "Polisario" has transferred dozens of the "Dakhla camp" population to the "Aousserd camp" where they opened a new camp in a desperate attempt to regain control over the situation.

Several NGOs based in Sweden and Norway have denounced the Polisario practices of violating human rights and embezzling foreign aid.
