Ivanov starts a Middle East tour tomorrow

The Russian foreign ministry announced yesterday that the Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov will start tomorrow a tour to the Middle East that will last five days and aims at enhancing the role played by Russia in search for a solution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and to urge the US to quickly form an Iraqi government.
The spokesman for the ministry Alexander Bakovinko said that Ivanov's talks in the region will concentrate, in particular on security, noting that Russia is ready to take part in monitoring operations with the USA in the Middle East.
He added that Russia welcomed the efforts of the USA aiming at setting peace in the Middle East by sending monitoring teams and for "our part, we are ready to join them."
Concerning Iraq, Ivanov will concentrate during his talks with the leaders of the region "on forming a purely Iraqi government as soon as possible." Ivanov who is in Italy following a visit to Brussels, will head for Egypt and then Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
