Egyptian mediation between Israel and the Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 7/12/2003

The chairman of the Egyptian intelligence Lt. Gen. Omar Suleiman will head for the city of Ramullah in the West Bank and Gaza within 48 hours in order to lead the Egyptian efforts aiming at fixing the Palestinian truce, despite the rejection of the government of Israel to implement affiliated obligations concerning the implementation of the Roadmap to peace.

This visit comes at a time when an Egyptian delegation ended a visit to Gaza in which it had received confirmations from the Palestinian groups not to violate the ceasefire agreement.

Palestinian sources said the visit aims also at solving the differences between Mahmoud Abbas and the central committee of the Palestinian national liberation movement ( Fatah ) which resulted in Abbas's resignation from the committee.
