Scores killed and wounded in tribal fighting in Somalia
Somalia, Politics, 7/10/2003

Some 28 persons were at least killed and other 65 wounded in confrontation that took place between warring Somali groups during the past 48 hours.

Local officials in Somalia said that these confrontations which took place in Afbaro Wako village in Ghalikio, capital of Modogh region, in the center of Somalia in which missiles were used, had decreased. However, tension is still prevailing.

These confrontation came after days when the Somali groups reached in a conference held in Kenya an agreement to form a federal government that runs the affairs of the country for four years. However, the chairman of the provisional national government, Abdul Qasem Salat Hassan, rejected the agreement and said that it destroys Somalia's unity. He accused his prime minister Hassan Absheer Farah whose government presides over the provisional national government delegation to the talks that he signed the agreement without the consent of the government.

However, the recent peace talks in Nairobi was the 16th attempt to establish peace in the country which has been without a central government since 1991.
