Two attacks by Iraqi resistance in Falouja; US soldier killed
Iraq-USA, Military, 7/10/2003

Witnesses said that members of the Iraqi resistance fired two attacks by over the shoulder RPJ missiles at the headquarters of the American forces and an American military vehicle in Falouja to the west of Baghdad.

One missile was fired at the headquarters of the US leadership in the downtown of Falouja and resulted in a fire, as stated by the witnesses who were not able to determine the number of victims. Following this attack, the American soldiers supported by armored vehicles were deployed in large number in the sector, according to witnesses.

One American soldier was killed by bullets in an incident the American central leadership said had no link to resistance attacks.

A statement by the American leadership said "an American soldier from the airborne contingent died on Monday as he was strongly wounded by bullets which had no links to fighting." But the statement did not include details about the incident.

Witnesses also reported that another attack by RPJ anti-tank missiles targeted on Tuesday an American armored vehicle and resulted in setting fire in it. The witnesses explained that fire shots were heard in the city following the attack. This, however, came after the US administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, expected that broadcasting of Saddam Hussein's recorded voice messages will encourage what he described the remains of his old system to cause more operations against the American and British forces.

Attacks of the Iraqi resistance have been increased against the American occupation forces in Baghdad and its suburbs strongly and more than 70 Americans were killed in Iraq since US President George W. Bush announced the end of major military operations in Iraq on May 1st, 2003, according to the US defense department.
