Arab officials ponder creation of Arab customs union

Arab executives and experts started here Tuesday a meeting to draft the union project, scheduled to be operational in 2005 when Arab states will create their free trade zone.
The Arab League assistant-secretary general for economic affairs, Abderrahmane Assahibani, said the meeting experts and executives from Arab countries' customs authorities are looking into several items, including preparations for the Arab free trade zone, and standardization of customs duties enforced by Arab states in their external transactions.
