The first instance court of Taza handed out on Monday prison sentences ranging between 10 and 18 months against a group of six individuals standing trial for acquaintances with the "Salafia Jihadia" extremist group.
Three members of the group were also ordered to pay 5,000 DH (US$ 540) in fines each.
Charges held against them include harming institutions, shaking the faith of Muslims, belonging to an underground organization, holding unauthorized meetings, and inciting to hatred and violence. One of the group members was also sued for distributing publications without due authorization.
In Casablanca, the trial of alleged eight members of the group, started on June 25 after one year of investigation, resumed on Tuesday at the court of appeal which was presented various objects seized at the suspects' houses.
The eight individuals denied any link with the group, led by Youssef fikri, who had admitted Monday murders except for that of his uncle. Fikri was expelled from the courtroom both Monday and Tuesday for refusing to answer questions.
