Al-Assad confers with Larsen: Syria did not ask to be included in the Roadmap
Syria-UN, Politics, 7/9/2003
President Bashar al - Assad received in Damascus yesterday evening the special envoy for Peace Process in the Middle East Terry Rod Larsen and the accompanying delegation regarding the roadmap to peace.
Al - Assad stressed that Syria didn't demand from any side to be included in the roadmap because the Syrian track depends on Madrid reference, related Security Council's resolutions and "Land for Peace" principle.
What this track needs now is the mechanism for reviving the negotiations from the point it stopped, the President added.
On his part, Larsen expressed approval over the Syrian stance adding that agreement on the references and mechanism will lead to just and comprehensive Peace.
He made clear that United Nation and the Quartet Committee are making progress in their efforts in order to achieve the hoped peace on all tracks.
Present at the meeting was Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Farouk al - Shara.
