Football: Morocco qualifies for African nations cup finals
Morocco-Regional, Sports, 7/8/2003
The Atlas Lions of Morocco on Sunday defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in Bata to comfortably top their group and move to the African Nations Cup (CAN-2004), due early next year in Tunisia.
A draw was enough for the Moroccans to make their way to the African Cup for the eleventh time, but North Africans, coached by Badou Zaki, wanted to mark a strong finish for their nascent team.
Morocco topped their group with 16 points, scoring 10 goals and keeping their net goalless. Sierra Leone came in second with 10 points.
Despite being one of Africa's strongest teams, Morocco only won the African Cup of Nations once, in 1976.
