Sudanese peace talks resume next Sunday

The Kenyan mediator for peace talks between the Sudanese government and the rebels Lazaro Sombabo has stressed that talks will be resumed next Sunday in Nakoro, west Kenya and will continue for seven days.

In a press statement in Nakoro, Sombabo said that the final phase of the talks will be held and the two sides will prepare the documents that they should sign in the mid of August and this will be the 6th round of the negotiations which started in Kenya, June, 2000.

Earlier this month, the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir announced that a peace agreement with the rebels by the beginning of October.

In July, 2002, the two sides signed a treaty for a 6- year provisional period during which the southern area will be given an autonomy before making a referendum on self-determination.
