Nine Americans wounded in explosion in al-Ramadi, an attack in Baghdad
Iraq-USA, Military, 7/4/2003

An American military spokesman announced yesterday that 6 American soldiers were wounded in an explosion that took place in al-Ramadi city to the west of Baghdad.

The spokesman explained the explosion resulted from throwing a bomb at the procession of those soldiers which was composed of two vehicles. No other details were mentioned.

Local inhabitants said that attackers riding a bike fired anti-tank RPG shell at a military vehicle in the city which is situated, 100 Km to the west of Baghdad.

In Baghdad, three American soldiers were wounded in a new attack by shells launched by Iraqi resistance against American patrol in the downtown of the city yesterday morning. Witnesses said that several Iraqi passerby were also wounded in the attack which took place at Haifa street and were admitted to the hospital.

However, information were contradictory on the details of the operation. While the source said the American soldiers fired at a car driver suspected to be involved in the operation and this resulted in his immediate killing, it was also said that the attackers burnt the military car wholly despite the fact that the US forces controlled the site of the incident.

On Wednesday, one US soldier was killed and other three wounded in a landmine explosion during mopping up operation of one land mine near Karbela governorate.

On the other hand, the American army announced it had arrested what it described former party and military officials during the operation which was launched on Sunday to chase the associates of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in northern Baghdad. The identity of the detainees were not revealed.

Meantime, the US President George W. Bush threatened to chase the attackers of the American forces who are destroying the infrastructure in Iraq.

Bush told reporters at the White House that those who thinks the US will leave Iraq early will be mistaken. In this context the the US Philadelphia Inquirer daily said yesterday that the US administrator of Iraq, Paul Bremer, asked Washington to send more forces and civilian officials to Iraq in order to establish order and operate services needed by this country.

The paper quoted officials at the US administration saying that the defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld is currently studying this request.

In another development, the American forces arrested Ali Abdul Karim al-Sayed al-Madani, one of the Shiite scholars in Deyali province.

The American forces broke into al-Madani house, inspected it before they detained him with 8 of his relatives and escorts. His relatives threatened to announce state of complete alert in Deyali province if the American forces will not release him unconditionally.
