Arab general physicians union founded
Regional-Jordan, Health, 6/30/2003
Upon conclusion of the meetings of the fourth conference of the Jordanian Public Health Society, a new union for Arab general physicians was founded and Amman was chosen to host the new body's head quarters.
Dr. Mohammad Hasan Al-Zubei was elected Secretary General and four assistant Secretary Generals were elected from Yemen, Lebanon, Syria and Sudan. Coordinators from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and North African Arab states were also named.
Member of the Jordanian Public Health Society Dr. Haydar Al-Etoum said Amman was chosen for the head quarters because it had hosted the first meeting to deal with foundation of the new body.
He pointed out the three-day meetings had discussed "scientific issues of importance and relation to different branches of medicine, the process of upgrading health services in the Arab region in general, combating contagious diseases, funding, and publication of a specialized Arab magazine."
