Yemen: seven extremists arrested in Abyan

During the two past days, the Yemeni forces detained 7 members of the Islamic "Aden Army" in Hatat mountains in Abyan province, during new mopping up operations in that area where extremists are hiding.
Yemeni military sources that they arrested three members of Aden army following clashes with its armed forces in Hatat during mopping up operations during which the government used helicopters and missiles in attacking the extremists.
The source indicated that 60 members are hiding in the mountains, including 10 of the main planners for blowing up the American warship "USS Cole " in Yemen in October, 2000 who had fled from prison in April this year.
The sources added that it pulled out three bodied of killed gunmen from the area, at a time when the authorities released three detainees who were arrested by the beginning of last week over their links to extremists.
On Saturday, the Yemeni police arrested 4 Islamists near Hatat and seized a car filled with weapons. Yemeni investigators said the car contained bombs, explosions and missiles used by the gunmen in the attack on a medical military procession in Abyan on June 21 which resulted to wounding 7 military men and the launching of the military campaign in the region.
On the other hand, the Yemeni news agency said that Yemen and the USA signed on Friday in Washington an agreement stated to offer Yemen American aid valued at 20 million dollars. The agency added that the aid included donations for foodstuffs and to finance educational, security and humanitarian projects.
