Moroccan POW tells story of horror in Polisario jails
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/28/2003
From the darkness of his cell in a Polisario jail, a Moroccan national, still jailed by the Polisario separatists in the camps of Tindouf (south-western Algeria), managed to send a book for publishing on his ordeal and that of hundreds of Moroccan POWs at the hands of the Algeria-backed group.
Abdellah Lamani, who has been in Polisario jails since 1980, chose "Horror" as a title for his 112-page book to eloquently express the daily hardship, torture, ill-treatment the Polisario inflicts on the Moroccan nationals it still holds captive in total defiance of world conventions and of calls by international organizations.
Lamani was captured by the Polisario, while he was on his way to Tata, a locality in southern Morocco, where he was planning to holiday.
The book, edited and published by the Moroccan Liberal Party, is illustrated by a photo of Lamani in a prisoner outfit and number.
A former technician at a Casablanca Match-making firm, Lamani relates how the Moroccan captives are subjected to servitude and hard labour under the suffocating heat of the desert.
Mohamed Ziane, Secretary General of the Moroccan Liberal Party, said the book tells the story of a human catastrophe and pledged that his party will disseminate the book at the largest scale possible.
