Paris hosts symposium about Syria

A symposium entitled ''Syria in the year 2003 - a cultural passport'' was organized in Paris on Friday Friday.
A teacher of the old history in Damascus University, Mohammad Mehfel reviewed history of the Mediterranean sea basin, the successive civilizations in it, Syria's role in creation of civilization and transmitting it to another regions in the world.
He stressed that modern Syria with her human and natural resources is able to be a base of economic, social, and cultural civilization which returns to the Arabs their civilized position in the future world.
Director General of the Strategic Studies Center of Arab and Islamic Worlds, Pierre Hard Kinli, spoke of Syria's strategic position in the Middle East, her leadership and people's long strife for protection of her independence and distinguished identity.
The U.S. Researcher, Randala Doglihem pointed out to "Syria's people strife for their independence and establishment of their modern state inspite of all maneuvers which faced them particularly the international Zionism."
Teacher in the Oriental and African Studies institute in London, Marwa Aldaoudi touched upon difficulties which modern Syria faced to protect her national identity, political, economic and ideological independence.
For his part, the British Journalist Patrick Seale spoke of the Arab Home situation and the U.S. domination, particularly after Iraq occupation.
A photos exhibition on the contemporary Syria prepared by Syrian artist Mohammad Al-Romi accompanied the symposium.
The symposium was organized in line with activities of Arabesque association in cooperation with Arab communists and Syrian Physicians in France.
