Oman studay a computerized financial system for the state
Oman, Economics, 6/27/2003

A report by Oman's official news agency said: Mohammed Jawad bin Hassan Sulaiman, director-general of treasury and accounts at the Finance Ministry has said the Ministry currently implements a project to develop the computerized financial system of the state to keep abreast with the developments in the world financial systems and to develop the Sultanate's practical and scientific potential and prepare for the e-governance," the official news agency said.

He added in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that developing the state financial system and transforming it from a monetary system to the entitlement system is an advanced step.

This project involves two stages, the first one includes several steps to evaluate the current computerized financial system and the available opportunities to develop it, while the second stage includes the preparation of a detailed anatomical statement of the system requirements during the upcoming period to decide on whether to develop it or completely replace it.

He noted that the Ministry has effected some amendments to the system during the past years to streamline the procedures which were adopted at that time.

He said a consultant is tasked with preparing this study which will be complete before the year end. The consultant will review the state financial laws and the accounting structure before proposing any amendments.

He pointed out that it is planned to hold three seminars on the latest technology and criteria and modern concepts adopted by other countries in this field. The first seminar will be held at the institute of public administration on Monday.
