Drugs Combating Symposium in Damascus
Syria, Health, 6/27/2003
A central national symposium about drugs was opened in Damascus on Thursday by Syria's Interior Minister Ali Hammoud.
Hammoud spoke of the drugs issue as a dangerous and destructive problem and its deadly effects on generations. He stressed that there is no drug farming or industry in the country.
Hamoud clarified that Syria's early joining to anti-drugs convention in 1961 and its amended protocol in 1972, the United Nations Conventions in addition to her cooperation with domestic, Arab and international organizations and activities of combating drugs indicate Syria's insistence on combating this epidemic and putting an end to its dangerous effects on society.
The symposium is organized by the information committee for combating drugs in cooperation with revolutionary youth Union and UNICEF.
