Morocco, Algeria convene 1st session of joint consular, social affairs committee
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/26/2003
The Moroccan-Algerian consular and social affairs committee, created this June 14-15 during the visit of Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister Mohammed Benaissa to Algeria, started its first session in Algiers on Wednesday.
The committee, that aims to maintain contacts between the two Maghreban states and enhance joint action, was held in the presence of ambassador-director of Arab and Islamic affairs in the Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation ministry, Mohamed Azeroual, and general director of Arab countries' department in the Algerian foreign ministry, Abdelhamid Chbira.
"The works of the committee are marked by frankness and a spirit of responsibility," said a member of the Moroccan delegation.
In addition to the consular and social affairs joint committee, the two states also set up a committee in charge of political consultation, chaired by the two countries' foreign ministers, and an economic affairs committee that is scheduled to meet early July in Rabat.
