French airlines resume flights to Algeria
Algeria-France, Local, 6/26/2003
The French airlines company resumed its flights to Algeria on Saturday following more than 8 years after the bloody crisis during which hostages were seized on the board of one of its flights, resulted to aborting flights to the country.
The chairman of the company Jan Seriel announced the resumption of the flights to Algeria in May, years following the negotiations with Algerian officials on security issues.
The company had asked for ensuring security at Hawari Bumedian airport in Algiers by French security forces; a request rejected by the Algerians.
However, a spokesman for the company announced that the two sides have reached a middle solution on that issue. A source at the company said that the measures include deployment of security forces in civilian uniforms on board of the planes heading from and to Algeria.
