Syria official complaint for US attack of Syrian patrol south of Abu Kamal
Syria-USA, Politics, 6/26/2003
The Syrian foreign ministry last Thursday summoned the American ambassador in Damascus following the military incident of attacking a Syrian patrol by the American forces at a border police station to the south of Abu Kamal.
The foreign ministry officially complained to the ambassador and asked him to notify his government to provide official explanations on the incident and to return back the wounded Syrian soldiers in order to follow up their medical treatment in a Syrian hospital, so as to avoid any misunderstanding that will be conducive to an escalation not desired by any of the two sides.
For his part, the American ambassador stressed he will send a report to his government on the said incident, and to notify the Syrian foreign ministry of what he will receive from Washington to this effect. The Syrian foreign ministry still awaits the needed American clarifications.
